Since 2008, life became lighter and a bit more fun. An user generated site, entitled 9GAG, with an aim to pass on the laughter, was introduced to the world. By now it has become one of the leading online social platforms for fun content. This all-time favorite website recently got a 9GAG office in Hong Kong designed by LAAB architects.
The motto of 9GAG is to add an edge to a monotonous day which was aptly carried forward by the architects to a warehouse space in an industrial high-rise building and converting it into 9GAG’s office.
The concept was based on the simplicity of worldwide known 9GAG interface – minimalist black & white. The 5000 square feet of area is flushed with natural light and also permits the original raw industrial shell to be seen. There are three major areas all connected with the company’s profile – 9PARK, 9DESK and 9SHED. Though the concept behind the naming of 9GAG is unknown.
“I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you”. – Ray Chan, founder quoting a famous line from Top Gun when asked why the name 9GAG.
9PARK is an open space, with a large green carpeted area. It acts as an interior green space used for camping and meeting, as well as a lounge zone for all office employees.
9DESK consists the workstations designed for different project teams, as per their daily needs. To break the monotony of work in the 9GAG office (after all it is also an office) the kitchen is designed in the heart of the space.
9SHEDS is formed by the enclosed meeting rooms, or as we generally refer to as conference rooms. These Sheds are transparent and are equipped to fit everything from workshops to meetings. These three areas justify the 9GAG’s vision of transparency, sharing and the sense of community.
Now with over 80 million monthly visitors and tremendous following on all social media, the smiles here are worth a lot but are still free. So don’t miss a chance at 9GAG – Go fun yourself!
