UT Sydney Business School | Frank Gehry

UT Sydney Business School: In the hub of Sydney, Australia, one of the most pronounced architects, Frank Gehry has designed his first project in the city. The 85-year old architect has created the Dr Chak Wing Building. It is considered one of the most outstanding architectural projects providing the UTS Business School with teaching, research and office accommodations. The new home of the University of Technology Business School has been designed to break the traditional image of any educational facility.

The design of the interior has replaced the lecturing theatres with small classrooms and studying areas fulfilling the needs of the students, whereas the design of the facades has been very creatively carried out to carry Frank Gehry’s signature.

Looking like a rumpled paper bag, the building was created using 320,000 custom designed bricks. The material reflects the local context of the design; each brick was laid by hand, as Gehry explains, “Because of the technology we’ve developed we were able to design something that was primitively made — hand-laid brick — that could follow those kinds of forms and I’ve always wanted to do that with brick.”
