Made Installation Ceiling | Snarkitecture

Made Installation Ceiling, Snarkitecture is a collaborative practice founded by Daniel Arsham and Alex Mustonen with an approach to architecture from a snarky, non-serious, and bold perspective. Asked to create installations for MADE in Sao Paulo, Snarkitecture used materials reclaimed from their manufacturing process. With the help of Electrolux, they created a “moving” ceiling made from light weight polystyrene freezer bins.

The ceiling starts from the entrance as a solid form where stairs goes under and the ceiling continuously creates a different spatial experiences for the users. Using light coming from the skylight that goes through and between the bins, wonderfully creating a central focal point within the showroom.

I believe that this project has a great concept, it starts the conversation of “recycling excess materials used in manufacturing”. But upon further thinking, I can’t help but ask, am I actually comfortable walking into a room with plastic bins hanging over my head?
