Terra is the Lisbon Architecture Triennale 2022—it focuses on territory, city, landscape, and on every sense of belonging to any place. As an international design event that is established on questioning research and practice, this year, Terra declares an intent and calls to action regarding climate change and climate challenges, pressure on resources, socioeconomic and environmental inequities, and how all these crises are connected to each other. In order to mitigate these complex situations, the design world needs a paradigm shift from a linear growth model to a circular evolutionary model—in simpler words, we need to perceive cities not as machines but as organisms.

The Triennale seeks to ask a few questions; What are the features of good neighborhoods? How can infrastructure such as roads be transformed into neighborhood spaces? How can institutions, schools, and offices be designed so they accommodate more diverse uses and users? What is the value of good neighborhoods?

Crossings – Winning Team of the Co-Curatorship Call of the 13th Biennale

With the underlying topic of Travessias (Crossings), the 13th International Architecture Biennale of Sao Paulo considers the relationship between bodies and territories, addressing issues such as colonialism, migration, displacement, and collective memory. The design event’s program expands through a succession of diverse “axes” such as democracy, memory, bodies, information, and ecology, based on Maria Beatriz Nascimento’s concept of crossings. What are some examples of urban environments that support democratic processes? How do facial recognition, the Internet of Things, and collaborative mapping influence the built environment? What does it take to create a shared memory?
