No. 6 Sydney Street Apartments’ Concept

The flowing curves of nature are reflected in No. 6 Sydney Street’s imbalanced plan, which gives the impression that it was hewn from a single block of material. Its floorplates, which have been softened, stand out as the main feature and are softly shaped into thin blades that sit on an asymmetrical grid of feature curved columns.
The fluid forms interact to give the structure a dynamic appearance. The deep rippling along the undulating facades creates a deliberate layering of positive and negative areas, allowing occasional gardens with flora growing to lighten the shapes.

A thick garden conceals the building’s foundation, and two concealed fluted columns support the entry canopy over a winding walkway. Using a polished natural material palette and artistic details, the entryway sequence initiates the shift from the exterior concepts to the interior. The carved cast bronze and the silver-dipped doorknob are the first outward sign of this.

Every apartment in No. 6 Sydney Street is different owing to its layout, patio, and exposure to natural light. The expansive windows and horizontal planes highlight the surrounding vegetation, park, and city. Much of the interior takes its ideas from the outside shape, featuring rounded volumes and plaster finishes.

Expertly made joinery in natural oak and book-matched marble contribute to a sense of homeliness, contrast, and sophistication in this minimalist take on luxury. A travertine mosaic adorns the walls of the bathrooms, adding a touch of subtle texture and setting off the dark wood and stone of the sink area.

The curvy shape of No. 6 Sydney Street results from a collaborative design effort between the firm V-Leader and the owners of the adjacent rectilinear buildings. Its sleek silhouette thoughtfully explores concepts of solidity and emptiness in a homogenous aesthetic. Its distinction from its surrounding residential environment results from its proximity to nature, utilization of movement, and artistic expression.
