Lions Park Scout | Auburn University Rural Studio

The Lions Park Scout Hut project created a home in Lions Park for the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of Greensboro, Alabama. The student team constructed the scout hut using a series of wooden frames, or bents, assembled on the ground and raised into place atop a concrete slab.

In an effort to further Rural Studio material research, the team harvested small diameter timbers as an exterior cladding and structural ballast by stacking the treated timbers into in the wooden frames. The scout’s hut includes a multi-purpose space, kitchen, restroom, and storage space for two scouts gear trailers. In addition to the scout hut, the team constructed two public restrooms and water fountains for park users.
