Dongguan Central Area Slow-Traffic System | eLandscript Studio

As Dongguan’s manufacturing industry continues to develop, more and more skilled workers are attracted to the region, resulting in increased construction of subways and intercity railways. Our team has developed a master plan for the Dongguan Central Area Slow-Traffic System, which covers a total length of 3 km within the central area of Dongguan, taking into account the 8 km Slow-Traffic Green Axis outlined in the Regional master plan.

Dongguan Central Area Slow-Traffic System’s Design Concept

The team embraced the idea of a “Social Loop & Green Necklace” and examined the needs of the site surroundings from three perspectives: disconnected points, urban parcels with potential for enhanced value, and interrupted green corridors. The plan includes several integrated vertical lift cores with retail elements. This proposed strategy aims to revitalize the urban area and contribute to developing a better-serviced Dongguan.

The Social Loop is a 1.5-kilometer-long walkway that connects the main areas of Dongguan City, including Central Park, Civic Center Phase I and Phase III, Minying IFC, Dongguan Rural Commercial Bank, Tai-Shang Building, Jia-Hong Building, and First International Block. Bridge No. 2 is designed with a maximum span of 103.5 meters due to site constraints, and it spans across the boulevard.

It features a continuous steel beam structure, a 10-meter arch held up by 54 cables, and flower boxes and viewing platforms on the center of the deck beam for people to enjoy. Bridge No. 1, located in the park section, integrates an elevated bridge, the park, subway entrances, and sunken plazas to establish a lively public space at the heart of Dongguan. The construction of Bridge No. 1 (park section) will begin after the completion of the subway construction.

The Green Necklace is a 1.5-kilometer-long structure connecting various city places, including Central Park, the Xigualing area, the Planning & Exhibition Hall, Huangqi Plaza, Qifeng Park, and Huangqi Mountain Hiking trails. It is a tree canopy bridge that connects the city center with the surrounding natural mountain environment.

In the Xigualing section of the Green Necklace, every entrance is intentionally designed to be easily accessible. The planned pathways are strategically constructed to avoid the existing trees on the site. They incorporate elements such as a tree-canopy stage, multiple pergola trellises, and platforms connected with subway lifts. The objective is to offer convenience and create functional spaces that benefit the residents. The construction of the Qifeng Park section will be synchronized with the development of the Huangqi Plaza.
