Le Nuage Fitness Center | Philippe Starck

Le Nuage Fitness Center

Fictional and non-fictional oeuvres engender and advocate feelings of incredulity. Today, humans have adorned a sense of confinement within their neurotic selves, where experiencing a tint from the realm of  inventiveness seems rare. But intuitively, masses agree that the experimental amendments that have been affixed to architecture are mobilizing our desires and integrating them into an aesthetic experience-these efforts account as a collective effort to re-create society, culture, self and nature. Maneuvering through  distinct domains to embody transparency sides with humanity’s millennia-long effort to recover the true essence of human experience and appreciation, so we can move to a new level of civilization. One such effort has been made by the iconic designer, Philippe Starck.

Philippe Starck, known for his extensive portfolio in furniture, product and industrial design, has stepped into the field of architecture with his ‘Le Nuage’ fitness and wellness building in Montpelier, France. Best described as “A minimal architectural gesture with maximum poetry”, ‘Le Nuage’ (meaning “the cloud”)  has been mindfully sculpted to resemble its nebulous epithet, embracing a translucent and minimalist architecture.

Le Nuage Fitness Center has gained recognition owing to it cleverly devised inflatable “skin”. It is ‘the first inflatable building in France’.  The sense of aerial lightness and transparency for the air-filled bubble in the distinctive facade, were fashioned using ETFE. Starck has bravely experimented with innovative architectural methods to generate a ‘new generation’ environment.

The contemporary five-storey ultra-modern fitness complex has been created in collaboration with property developers, the Roxim Group. The design ideology is a modern-day take on the baths that existed during the Greek and Roman times. The building houses an array of health and fitness facilities, a cafe, pool and children’s area furnished with Starck’s well-known furniture. Le Nuage Fitness Center stimulates socialization among the masses, integrating their interactive experience with their physical and mental well-being-all under one roof.
