Taking this ideology by Mies van der Rohe into consideration (Mies being himself considered somewhat of a ‘god’, as far as modern architecture is concerned) a new way of using materials was born. Julien Carretero, who’s a range of Stencil Aluminium Furniture strikes an elegant balance between structural and textural design, has proven that the details are still what determines the good design. Using a casting method that involves moulds lined with a heat resistant fabric, Carretero’s designs make metallic furniture look like hand-woven pieces of art.

Apart from a bit of post-mould sanding, the whole process is much more simplified and the moulds used in the production process are reusables making the whole process possible with nominal production costs as compared to traditional aluminium casting techniques. Zero processing waste also makes this form of metal casting a more eco-friendly process.
