The Captivating Geometry of Madrid Buildings Captured by Joel Filipe

As a part of the international day of architecture initiative, Instagramers capture the unique architecture of Madrid in pictures. Digital designer and creative director, Joel Filipe’s contribution to the initiative is quite outstanding. Filipe presents a series of pictures of some of Madrid most distinctive architecture.

The pictures take on the buildings from a different perspective. With the aim of engaging the viewer in an online interactive experience, Filipe captures the small, intimate details of the buildings. He features the unique relationship between the parts and materials, the neat geometric patterns, and the pleasant effect of light on different colors. He shows that the seemingly typical minimalist buildings are much more than what they seem.

The pictures of Distrito Telefónica show the grading effect of light on the glass panels all over the façade, giving life to the linear pattern. On the other hand, the pictures of Ciudad BBVA give an up-close look at the animated pattern formed by the succession of sun breakers and the extended roof plates. The same goes for the Gran Via building and Casino Gran Madrid-Colon, where the alternation of rectilinear geometries gives an attractive dynamic effect.

The pictures of Rey Juan Carlos Hospital show the contrast between the rectangular podium, with its alternative linear and square patterns, and the curved forms on top, with their diamond pattern of dimpled glass. The interior shots show the lively effect of the projecting light, in pure circular forms, on the succession of gray covering the walls.
