Serlachius Gösta Museum, A collaboration of Danish architects Eero Lunden Studio and Eric Tan of PinkCloud.DK creates a new parametric structural design for the city of Mänttä that enriches the interaction between art and architecture. The firm wants to turn away from the elements of a typical museum, one that is surrounded by white walls and individual, separated rooms.

The structure of the museum has a kind of stereotomic nature as if the a mass had gradually been cut into specific forms to create a new spacial typologies that re-imagines and re-defines the comprehensive form. The need to form a unique framework affected the overall outcome of the building envelope and interior spaces, transforming the typical rectilinear style to one that’s curvilinear and organic. The structure is integrated throughout the building and influences the interior spaces.

The interior also works with combining programmatic elements rather than allocating specific ones. The structure is also incorporated into the facade to achieve a level of consistency. The essential programs create a continuous plane on every level where washrooms and kitchens are shoved in between slabs to provide space for visitors to engage directly with the architecture.
