The FNN Sustainability Center, situated within Tekfen Construction’s Machine Maintenance Facilities in Ceyhan, has been meticulously crafted to serve as a hub for archival preservation, museum exhibitions, and administrative offices. In this dynamic project, which encompasses a steel manufacturing workshop, the primary objective was to accentuate the steel framework that constitutes the building’s structural essence, infusing it as a central design element.
The FNN Sustainability Center’s Design Concept
The design team saw a trio of distinct functions seamlessly coexisting within this ambitious venture. The archive, existing as a self-contained entity, relies on reinforced concrete for its structural integrity. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the office space showcases the steel skeleton of the building, generously adorned with transparent glass façades.
Bridging the gap between these two extremes, the museum is the focal point and gathering space for these divergent programs. This innovative design concept harmoniously integrates the exhibition space with the offices, and libraries are thoughtfully placed in areas requiring sound insulation while maintaining transparency in the remaining rooms. This architectural ingenuity encourages the fluidity of movement within the building, fostering an environment of connectivity.
The FNN Sustainability Center’s outer shell, an adaptable and perforated metal structure, envelops the entire structure. Its purpose is twofold: to create inner gardens and green spaces by modulating the spaces between the interior and shielding the building from direct sunlight, ensuring a comfortable office atmosphere.
Within this enclosed space, an inner courtyard graces the archive, office, and exhibition areas, fostering a lush transition and facilitating air circulation. These verdant pockets include tranquil pools that provide a respite for office personnel, amplifying the role of natural airflow.
Underneath this innovative green roof, a versatile area emerges, thoughtfully designed to accommodate gatherings and celebrations. Remarkably, the FNN Sustainability Center has been honored with the prestigious LEED Platinum Certificate.
This recognition underscores its capacity to generate 45% of the building’s energy needs through clever landscape design, strategic plant selections, inventive lighting solutions, and the utilization of photovoltaic panels. The FNN Sustainability Center is a beacon of sustainable architectural brilliance in every aspect.
