Drawings in Space
Janusz Grünspek creates minimalistic recreations of quotidian objects as life-size wireframe sculptures that look like the preliminary design sketches of these items. He creates these using wooden dowels, glue and fine precision.

Through these wireframe sculptures he exposes the key elements that make up each object. The items that the artist has chosen seem ordinary at first, but then a pattern emerges. Most of the artist’s works are based on inventions that have revolutionized technology. These include a MacBook, a nail and hammer, cassette tape and player, a reel film projector among so many others. Grünspek has also created a recreation of an entire office as a wireframe exhibition.

Most of the objects recreated were geometric in shape, making beautiful sculptures; but in the office exhibit, a non-geometric bag sits in the right hand corner, recreated perfectly down to every minute detail. From the slight bend it would have sitting on the floor, with its zipper open to the strap sprawled in front, each idiosyncrasy adds to its glory. That is when I understood the title of the works ‘Drawings in Space’ as the complete picture looks like a three dimensional sketch, and not just a composition of individual sculptures.
