The STAR Performing Arts Centre at Vista Xchange, is a new entertainment, lifestyle and retail complex located in Singapore. The architects, Aedas, state that ‘The concept design is driven by the desire to blur the boundaries between retail and cultural zones and indoor and outdoor spaces with flowing spatial transitions that encourage discovery and deliver an energetic civic node serving one-north and beyond.’
With 54,000 total m², the scheme is broken up into retail, civic and cultural zones and incorporates some 24,000 m² of retail space which spirals inward from major entrance points towards a large open amphitheatre. A tall, 40m grand foyer serves as a linking point between the three zones and opens up under a canopy for outdoor entertainment and dining. The Centre will be home to a 5,000+ seat auditorium- the largest of its kind in Singapore- which will be host to amplified musicals, concerts and large scale visual events. The remainder of the program is made up of service zones comprising administration, artist and technical support, function spaces, foyers, concessions and circulation spaces.
The project is currently underway and has already won several awards. It was the 2009 Winner of The Architecture Award Asia Pacific CNBC Asia Pacific Commercial Property Awards; 2009 finalist of The Architecture Award International Property Awards, Global; and the 2010 Commended Future Mixed-Used MIPIM Architectural Review Awards.
