The reconstruction project started out with cleaning out of old layers of design thus stripping it free but the original name “The Fountain Bar” was intended to be retained. Fountain, defined as a spurt or cascade of water which can both be natural and ornamental thus became the starting point of the concept.

The inspiration was taken from the constant movement and variability of water and was transferred to light through a system of light conducting fibers which were 3 mm thick and held together by an undulating structure containing 12 glass frames. Designed using parametric software and iterative visualizations the final product was arrived at by varying dimensions and distance of glass frames, their radius controlled by ripple control circles, the number of fibers passing through the frame, their densification, etc.

Forming waves and ripples of continuously changing light, the fibers are illuminated by 2 light sources. The space contains only one aperture in the form of an pr-existing skylight and thus sorely misses out on the indoor outdoor relationship characteristic of welcoming public spaces. This was overcome by employing a 6m wide aquarium on the front panel which not only adds liveliness but also a new identity and hence a new name.
