Park – Tech (Zhongguancun Dongsheng Science Park Phase III) | SOPA
Project Overview “Zhongguancun Dongsheng Science Park Phase”- Emerging from the last substantial urban development site in Beijing’s Haidian District, Park-Tech is not just another office building — it symbolizes the final phase of Beijing’s urban growth and perhaps its most creative. Created by Society Particular (SOPA), this pioneering venture began construction in 2020 and is set to be completed by the end of 2023, signifying a pivotal moment in the capital’s architectural history.
Site Context and Design Philosophy – Spanning 11.2 hectares of Beijing’s last untouched land, the project bears a significant responsibility as the city’s last chance to showcase large-scale sustainable urban development. The site’s untouched location is flanked by the Jingzhang green belt to the east and the Xiaoyue River to the west, with the Olympic Forest Park and the historic “Three Mountains Five Gardens” encircling an invaluable ecological context within a 10-kilometer radius. SOPA’s strategy recognizes the site’s importance as Beijing’s last major urban blank page, crafting a design that doesn’t treat the land as a surface to be developed, but as a valuable ecological asset to be improved. The outcome is a versatile “park complex” that illustrates how Beijing’s final urban piece can become a blueprint for future development around the globe.
Future Legacy – As the final major urban development in Beijing, Park-Tech bears a distinct responsibility. It acts not only as a culmination of the city’s expansion but also as a new beginning—demonstrating how future urban developments globally can blend technology, nature, and human activity in a harmonious coexistence. This project stands as evidence of what can be achieved when architects approach untouched land not as a resource to be exploited, but as an opportunity to pioneer a new urban lifestyle.
