Recycled Portraits | Zac Freeman

Since 1999, the artist Zac Freeman gets what he finds and then turns it into a true work of art, be transforming consuming garbage into portraits that can be seen that distance! There’s something so intriguing about finding the domino, altoids tins, bride & groom cutouts, and dolls in the self-portrait below, and then pulling back to focus on the intense gaze. These striking images create a kind of optical illusion reminiscent of Chuck Close, where it’s almost impossible to focus on the face and the objects at the same time.
