Wuxi Xidong Park Bridge L&A Design Group

In the Chinese city of Wuxi, southern Jiangsu province a new, transforming project is proposed. The Wuxi Xidong Park Bridge, proposed by the L&A Design group, will create a new refreshing pedestrian connection between the North and South edges of the park’s lake. The project will act as a dynamic link between the lake shores activating the park and attracting tourists and local visitors to the area. The bridge displays a smooth fluidity in its design reflecting the strong connection of the city to the body of water the bridge is passing over. A flow of lines shaping into an ‘S’ form express an aesthetically rich contemporary form. The bridge is intended to be a lively link containing facilities such as a café, pocket gardens, in addition to its main function as a circulation path within the city. It offers an engaging pedestrian experience with the surrounding landscape.

This marvelous structure allows for the artistic blend of architecture with water and landscape, while engaging pedestrians in a new experience. The bridge gradually transforms into a larger platform, a new destination for pedestrians. This semi-island platform offers a wider view into the lake, with a shaded canopy, and a private space for the café. The pedestrian movement and experience is through ramps; however, boats movement is still made possible by the design of the bridge. The many pedestrians can interact, explore, or even sit back and relax in a secluded area.

The construction material of the bridge will be lightweight steel structures. The outer panel skin is an elegant, light-colored material that can be lit up at night time allowing for a sensational experience. The seating and railing of the project will be constructed from polished timber. The bridge is a beautiful piece of art that will change people’s perspective of normal every-day bridges.
