Train Nest | Feiyu Qi

This project represents Feiyu Qi’s thesis for the Studio Excessive in Postgraduate Program Urban Strategies at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, 2012. The objective was to design a new train station for Vienna by reinterpreting the existing Westbahnhof station.

In terms of the aesthetics and the forms, there is a psychology disease called Trypophobia that people with it would fear clusters of small similar shapes and holes. However, that kinds of forms are what Qi admired, cause they obey the logic of growth and the beauty of nature. So Qi would use a few basic space units, through deformation and different ways of composition, to generate the complicated and functional space.
