The Paradise Lost in Time | Interbreeding Field

The Paradise Lost in Time designed by Interbreeding Field, Shihlin paper factory lies in the downtown of Taipei City, that is a big area ruined for a long time. Getting into the factory it divides into two part of an area, on the left is a concrete factory building adjoining a smaller brick building with a destroyed roof; On the right is a quite long factory building, constructing with beautiful brick texture. Because of the longtime disuse and temporal destruction of the construction, the internal space of the factory became the best growing place for a plant. The sunshine and rainwater spilled through a destroyed interstice of the building, producing the ruined space filled with poetic atmosphere.

About the new use of the space, the building left side is setting the usage of exhibiting, and it will have different exhibition in the future. One of the works of Interbreeding Field is the atmosphere & field compounding for the outside public space in the surrounding of this exhibition space. We created outside rest field, outdoor coffee district, and we also created Coffee shop and lavatory area constructing by the light within the plastic container within the old space with destroyed roof, thinking how to combine the trace of old material, the scale of old place…, then constructing the atmosphere field where the activities take place in a different way.

In the right side, the long, brick, poetic factory is the location of the Paradise Lost in Time. The enveloping space setting because of the destroyed roof constructing the new orientation of the factory, the interchanging of the body position and speed through the enveloping space catching the natural elements such as light, water, wind, etc, and giving the sense of surprise to enter the ruined factory in the same time. Passing the enveloping space, we meet another atmosphere field we created by combining the natural plant, destroyed construction, light, old smell, rainwater with the moving, gathering of the body. By moving your body, you will have a different way to meet old space than creating a new atmosphere.
