The Sailing House’s Design Concept

The design of the Sailing House revolves around a twisted observation axis that grants sweeping views of the boundless sea. Each room in the house has been strategically angled to ensure unobstructed vistas of the nearby sea, imbuing the structure with a dynamic and ever-evolving shape.

Outdoor terraces grace each room, offering panoramic views of the Incheon Sea. These terraces seamlessly connect via elevated promenades, creating an observatory-like experience and encircling an intimate courtyard.

A clever integration of water features, including streams, ponds, and waterfalls, artfully bridges the gap between land and sea within the visual landscape of the Sailing House.

Recognizing the decreasing frequency of family gatherings in modern Korean society, the architects designed a theatrical public living space with a captivating seascape, encouraging family members to come together and connect. A nod to tradition, the concave curves reminiscent of traditional Korean architecture were cleverly incorporated into the design, evoking the image of a ship’s dynamic sail on the sea.

The Sailing House is more than just a residence; it’s a vessel sailing toward the family’s dreams of an unpredictable and wishful future, with the sea horizon as their constant companion.
