Orchideorama. What is Orchideorama? Leaving aside specific and independent definitions provided by the architects and sticking strictly to the literal, Orchideorama is a forest building for Columbia’s Medellin Botanical Garden.

Designed by Plan B Architects + JPRCR Architects, the wood and steel structure makes use of a unique hexagonal structural system. Drawing from the structural model of the honeycomb, the building exists as 14 ‘orchids’ which centre around dedicated trunks providing columnar structure and access.

The building is another example of a human creation which seeks to harmonize its construction and existence with the natural surroundings which act as its host.
