The Network series by Irene Anton is an investigation of materiality, ductility, movement, direction and poise. Set in a myriad of disparate locations, the network seems to trace unseen connections in space. This space is in the eyes of the artist, the online environments we frequent, with the spans and nodes serving to represent the webs we weave for ourselves. Network also sources another global web for influence, that of fashion. Of all the human pursuits, none is more universally influential than fashion. It constantly recreates itself, ever new, ever sticky- bits of it seem to appear in every realm of culture. Each instillation pays homage to as well as stands apart from this global web in its materiality, using between 100 and 150 pairs of recycled stockings. These are in turn stuffed with balls to create nodes of interface and activity. Each instillation is site specific in that no overarching framework is developed in absentia of situational context.
