Light Sculptures
The mark of true geniuses is the fact the they continue to do what they love regardless of criticism, appreciation or opportunities. This total devotion, determination and dedication towards their work is what makes them special. Stephen Hendee is one such personality. A sculptor from Las Vegas, USA, he holds degrees from numerous institutes including Stanford University and has been designing sculptures since the early 1990s.
Hendee uses polypropylene, black tape, glue, fluorescent lights and colored gels with such creativity and efficiency that he creates a new distorted environment in each work often called ‘light sculptures’. Even though the components used are less, it does not affect the impact created by these masterpieces in the slightest. Due to the use of black tapes, the compositions stand out in the forms of straight lines. This enhances the whole form by appearing simplistic yet interesting.
Some of his remarkable works include ‘The Eye-2005’, ‘The Pinpoint Remains-2012’ and ‘The Last People-2013’. Hendee has also been awarded numerous awards including ‘MSAC Individual Artist Award in Visual Arts: Sculpture, 2014’. His work is an inspiration for lots of people and his dedication is something to learn from. The admirers of his work are surely waiting for his next projects.
