Lapland Hotel: A Magical World of Ice, Snow and Game of Thrones

Every year, SnowVillage builds a new ice hotel where they use about 20 million kilos of snow and 350 000 kilos of crystal clear ice. This time they went for a Game of Thrones theme, creating the ultimate winter adventure for Game of Thrones fans.

Located in Muonio, Finland, Lapland Hotel is made completely out of ice and snow and exhibits an artistic display of ice-carvings depicting Game of Thrones characters. It is a fully equipped hotel with snow rooms and suites, an Ice Restaurant, an Ice Bar, and Ice Chapel. Yet, the rooms that strike visitors as the most significant are the Braavos’ Hall of Faces and a full-sized replica of the Iron Throne where you feel like you are right inside the set of Game of Thrones.

Although the temperature is maintained between 23 and 28 F, SnowVillage has managed to make this Game of Thrones-themed hotel snowy yet comfy.

According to Lapland Hotels Snowvillage, they state “The constructors, specialized in using snow and ice as a building material, are constantly developing new tools and equipment for snow construction and exploring innovative ways of taking this art form to new levels for your enjoyment. Sleeping, dining, and visiting the SnowVillage is an enjoyable experience when wearing suitable winter clothing as the temperature of SnowVillage remains at a comfortable -2 and -5 Celsius degrees, regardless of the outdoor temperature.”

Each one of the hotel rooms is also equipped with thermal sleeping bags and hot drinks that keep visitors warm and cozy even when the temperature reaches a minimum of 23 F.

It is their first time to use a Game of Thrones theme, however, it is their 17th time to create a 20 000 square-meter ice hotel (215,000 square feet). This time they partnered with HBO Nordic and gathered sculptors from Russia, Poland, Latvia, and Ukraine to design the Game of Throne-themed hallways.
