Image-Based Plant Identification App for Smartphones Is Landscape Architects’ New Best Friend
Landscape architects and designers, this is for you. Along the lines of music recognition apps like Track ID or Shazam, a group of researchers from Cirad, IRA, Inria / IRD and Tela Botanica Network introduced a plant identification app. It is called “Pl@ntNet”, and it is available for iPhone and Android devices.
Pl@ntNet recognizes the species of a plant by comparing its picture, which is taken by the user, to the many pictures in its massive database. So far, the application has more than 25,000 species recognized from different geographical locations, and its database is growing everyday by collecting and grouping the pictures and information uploaded by its users on the Pl@ntNet network.
