A few months ago, we featured a set of stools which were the work of innovative artist Jolan Van der Wiel. These candles seem to be the continuation of the artist’s ‘Gravity’ series. Small magnetic bits are mixed in with the base material (in this case, wax) is used to create the work and set in a liquid state within a container on Van der Wiel’s ‘Gravity Machine’ below a set of powerful magnets. The magnets are lowered to the point where the material begins to be attracted. They are then slowly pulled up, extruding the material and revealing hidden magnetic field lines.
