Glitch wooden sculpture | Paul Kaptein

Paul Kaptein, an Australia based artist sets to unit materiality with virtual reality in his series of sculptural wooden works by adding digital “glitches” into each carved piece. These warped and distorted proportions of a seated monk symbolize an endless sound that came into a pause, and are perceived as a mind-bending illusion.

The figure’s body seemed as if interrupted by software, introduces a rectangular and circular apertures into the competition, allowing the viewer to peek through gaps in the otherwise solid wooden volume.
