FAN Table | Mauricio Affonso

The dropbox states in the provided description the website ‘www.djuric-tardio.com’- I don’t think this is theirs in any way shape or form. Please DO NOT place this link in the article. The FAN Table, designed by Mauricio Affonso is a table that would make King Arthur truly proud. It exists not quite in a state of flux, but more so in a state of anticipated, even suggested flux. Constructed of two adjustable elements- base and tabletop, both can be folded out to achieve a wide array of shapes and forms to meet the many different situations which a table might find itself the centre of.

The base consists of a clean geometric form, created from birch gate-folding legs which can be folded out to receive the differing forms of the adjustable tabletop. The tabletop, being made from over 400 wooden slats, can expand and contract- linearly or radially- with quick ease. Affonso states that ‘ Furniture can be quite limited sometimes, I wanted to move away from the table as a static object and create a self-transforming table that can spontaneously adapt itself to play a new role in the fabric of a situation.’
