Drawing Apparatus | Robert Howsare

This device is wonderfully simple. The ‘Drawing Apparatus’ created by Robert Howsare creates intricately dictated drawings through the use of a turntable and elbow-jointed drawing arms which extend from set radii on the disks. The differential between disk speeds as well as between radius settings creates an image that is perhaps most interestingly read as the 3D visualization of a spindle torus. Although it would create the very similar images time and again if left on the same settings, if these were adjusted even in just one dimension (radius or speed), an infinitude of designs are possible.
