Dissolving Figurative Sculptures, Unmask Group is made up of three Beijing-based artists Liu Zhan, Kuang Jun, and Tan Tianwei, who have been producing sculptural work together since 2001.
Their dissolving figurative sculptures upon first glance appear incomplete where entire sections of the piece are missing and removed. The minimalist nature of the sculptures show just enough to get a general idea of the form and for the subject to be recognized, projecting a sensual quality to the work. The delicate lines and smooth curves make the stainless steel material feel light and almost fluid in nature rather than hard and solid with the finished piece being elegant and expressive.
