Wow. This ongoing series of portraits, titled Constellation, by New York artist Kumi Yamashita has more to it than first glance reveals. It is one, yes, one strand of unbroken black thread wound around a dense array of galvanized nails mounted to a background board painted white. This means that the darker areas of the portraits are solely resultant from the density of string. What an incredible amount of planning and foresight had to have gone into these amazing pieces.
