Chicken Wire Sculpture Benedetta Ubaldini

Have you ever think about the chicken wire before you throw it a way ?? Benedetta Ubaldini, a London-based artist, uses this chicken wire as an interesting medium to craft a skillfully built hand-sculpted animals, figures, and variety of three dimensional sculptures that are form whimsical and unexpected scenes that you might see in a children’s storybook.

Ubaldini says, “The simplicity of this material contains the magical power of transparency that is capable of giving each piece the lightness of an apparition, a ghostlike quality, like a trace from a memory.”

Ubaldini experiments with colors and lighting to produce installations that, she says, “give a sense of wonder and magic,” and awaken the imagination in all of us. She skillfully shapes this permeable material into giant rabbits, hot pink pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, and floating clouds that fill a gallery space.
