The pavilion is for architecture, something a bit analogous to the culinary’s amuse bouche. It is something which stands, relatively free of requirements or necessary program, mostly for enjoyment and informal occupation. Arhitekton Magazine’s Architecture Pavilion Competition is a competition set out to explore this versatile typology, in hopes of finding an architecture which is ‘universal, timeless, and spaceless’. The results of this year’s Competition have named Dimitrije Bugarski as winner of first prize. His proposed pavilion would be located along the promenade, on Danube quay in Novi Sad. It functions as a people gatherer, enticing passersby to sit and relax for a bit before moving on. A secondary function is one of small scale exhibition.”
The pavilion stands as two volumes seemingly formed from one which was once under immense bending force but has been split; freed of it’s torsion- as if by a surgical blade. This cut allows a break in facade and in movement, where people inside and out can pause to take in the view. The construct’s materiality is composed of Kingspan panels, who were a major sponsor of the comopetition.
