Wunderbugs by OFL Architecture, designed and created at the second annual Maker Faire Europe in Rome, is a combining of humans as audiences to “six spherical ecosystems” where insects move about their businesses. The space contains sensors to collect and broadcast the combined naturalistic experience. OFL Architecture: Inspired to connect people and nature, the project was made by a team, composed of “a biologist, a sound engineer, a composer, and an architect.”

It was a cross-disciplinary effort for “organic design with tactile experience.” By combining the architectural geometry with the aural enhancements, Wunderbugs displays the “inseparable (and abstract) relationship with the world’s harmony.” Creating this through a series of CNC and laser cut plywood panels, the pavilion is designed for flexibility and modularity. Putting together ancient Roman inspired façade with Arduino sensors of today, this design bridges time, but also meteorological conditions like “location, motion, humidity, temperature, and intensity of sunlight.”
