Asymptote Architecture, a New York based office has been commissioned to design an interactive park located in the hills of Peccioli, Italy. This city’s realization of the Parco Degli Angelu (Park of Angels) will create a variety of dynamic spaces for people to interact and benefit from solitude. The park will contain an amphitheatre that seats 800 people, interactive sculptures, and numerous observation points for views of the surrounding countryside.

The firm’s vision of the project is that the park will be ‘a unique opportunity to intervene within a pristine landscape and to make evident the possibility of juxtaposing a provocative and inspired future against a remarkable and historical significant context.
The park itself seems to be more about the structure then the nature and the landscaping. The amphitheatre, being the main element of the park can be host to a variety of different performances.

The unique element of the theatre is it’s responsive skin’s kinetic canopy composed of white tensile fabric. This material cladding transforms through a system of apertures and directional funnels in order to mediate the airflow and daylight, all the while enabling the embedded photovoltaic’s to harness energy from the sun.
