Wave of Matter | Tommi Grönlund + Petteri Nisunen

Look out! Here comes wave/ particle duality at ‘ya! This installation piece by the  architect/artist/record producing duo from Finland, Tommi Grönlund + Petteri Nisunen blurs the line between wave and particle, mass and individual. As the lipped tabletop undulates back and forth, thousands of metal ball bearings flow from edge to edge. Moving slowly, hesitantly at first, the tipping point is reached and the balls move as a massive wave. The kinetic sculpture creates an easily perceived link between the aural, visual, and tactile, between sound, shape, and movement. As the balls roll, they create an ocean-wave-like chorus of sound while visually resembling a tidal wave receding back into the greater ocean.
