Italian Artist Federico Babina Releases New Series “PORTRART” Featuring Famous Art Figures

Italian artist Federico Babina has released a new series of illustrations ‘PORTRART’ in which he symbolically portrays 35 famous artists. The series includes portraits of artists like Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, and Frida Kahlo. The abstracted illustrations present the artist’s attempts to simplify human features, necessary for a portrait, while reflecting a hint of their style and character, along the lines of his former ‘ARCHI_PORTRAIT” series which was dedicated for architects.

“The idea is to achieve an almost abstract representation without losing the essence of figurative representation,” says Babina. ‘Disordered lurking or realistic fantasy are oxymorons present in these compositions. An engraving series of geometric shapes around a central matrix — the portrait.’

The illustrations are also featured in an animated video which reveals the sequence of lines and shapes that compose the different portraits. The soundtrack and sound design for the video were done by Andrea Russo.
