AIA Announces Winning Sustainable Projects for 2017 COTE Top Ten Awards
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and its Committee on the Environment (COTE) have revealed the winners of the COTE Top Ten Awards for 2017, which celebrates excellence in sustainable design. The 21-year-old award honors projects which integrate good design with great performance. The COTE’s criteria for the award include social, economic, and ecological factors.
Prior to 2014, the award receptionists were selected based on their predicted performance; however, since then, former winners have been requested to submit post-occupancy data and narratives, based on which they could be awarded a single COTE Top Ten Plus award each year. In 2017, both awards have been merged, such that the projects with an added “Plus” label to their awards are ones which have presented commendable performance and post-occupancy data.
