Spanish Street Artist Creates Indoor Series of Perspective Illusion Art on Pressed Wood
Spanish artist Pejac, famous for his playful perspective street art, has created an indoor optical illusion art series, called “Redemption”. The series was entirely produced using pressed wood boards, pencil, and ink. Pejac uses the pressed wood as a canvas and plays with its wooden chips using pencil and ink. Using shade and shadow he moves them, elevates, or hides them.
Pejac’s art addresses urban and environmental issues and this series is not different. He explained that the use of wood in that manner is meant to address the overuse of the material and its natural consequences, “The beauty of the pressed wood seems to hide the arrogance of man in its relation with nature.” He adds, “These panels have some sort of aesthetic warmth but at the same time a sense of devastation, making it very contradictory, which directly refers to my way of understanding art. Expressing myself on thousands of small pieces of wood feels like ‘tattooing’ on the stripped skins of trees. Each drawing in this Redemption series are tribute to nature. Any other subject would have been frivolous.”
