3D Printed Cast, Jake Evill, a graduate from in New Zealand, has been developing a 3d printed cast that he calls Cortex. The concept of Cortex is to be functional as well as aesthetically pleasing.
Evill says that the “Cortex exoskeletal 3d printed cast provides a highly technical and trauma zone localized support system that is fully ventilated, super light, shower friendly, hygienic, recyclable and stylish.”
It would be 3D-printed, with top-level support around the break area to provide a snug fit. While the 3D-printed method would take longer to produce than a plaster cast, it is a push in the right direction for anatomy and medicine.
