Manta-ray seating for Sawaya & Moroni | Zaha hadid

The Manta Ray Duo by Zaha Hadid Architects, is constantly folding fluid two seater chair designed for Sawaya & Moroni. It is further exploration of Zaha Hadid Architects’s work displayed in the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale. The name maybe very well derived from tropical eagle rays known for their lithe form

The surface here is the primary focus and how it can be used to create forms and usable volumes. It uses a lightweight aluminium shell to craft and support a two seater. A central axis is maintained along which the form rises to creates armrests along with  an element of separation. A Y shape at the back strengthens the form and shows how each part is an integral to the whole. Its black color suggests subdued luxury and the curves convey comfort.

The organic form of the chair is a symmetric interplay of void and surface. Sleek and yet sturdy , the chair can act as elegant addition to any modern interior.
