THE SOCIAL HUB SKYSCRAPER Maciej Trzciński, Paweł Kryński
Social networking is an inevitable part of our life and communicating. These services are fair and promising because we can stay in contact with literally everybody we know. Despite many advantages it is becoming obvious that it leads to multiple social problems.
First of all we have no doubts that our generation is a `texting generation. We lock ourselves in our homes, sit in front of our computers and chat with people. Sometimes, when it comes to real life, many people have problems with interpersonal communication.
We are becoming isolated from our surroundings. Not only from our families, but also from closest friends and neighbours.
Moreover this issue is also easy to notice on a wider look. Closed housing subdivisions create isolated societies all over the earth. Once built in a calm and quiet neighbourhood they change its image and divide people.
Going further –Usually we know the place where we live, work, study, etc. But have we ever felt the spirit of other places than these? In fact we know only little parts of our city defined by ourselves.
We wanted to create a network that gives an opportunity to change the place of your residence without leaving your house at the same time. Our project gives an opportunity for social groups to mix and stimulates users to meet new people and interact with each other. It allows families, closest friends and societies to unite and live together in multiple combinations. At once it is not only helping us getting better acquainted with the city we live in but it is also improving the tourism itself by not limiting us to one or two weeks holiday trips.
This network consist of series of skyscrapers settled all over the world in major cities, one per each district. These buildings are designed to carry thousands of modules whereas each one is a mobile house. Each module can be moved from the skyscraper that it is attached to another one in different district, city country or even continent depending on users’ will. This is possible thanks to haulers which transport series of units. We think of it as a sort of a taxi, that is available on call. The rest of the moving process happens without users interference.
Streamline and organic form assure good aerodynamics and refer to theoretical qualities of this work – rapid changes, movement and fluent communication. The tower inside is a multilevel system of urban parks and plazas twining and interlacing with each other what provides huge amount of places for human interactions, meetings, parties or long walks. It is a one immense leisure area.
Each skyscraper is in a way an airport terminal, therefore we have located them near traffic junctions in the very central parts of urban areas. This particular location of an interactive structure creates new opportunities when it comes to developing land transportation routes and solutions as well as while improving the way in which the whole city functions.
We believe that our idea could slow down the issue suffered by societies of today’s first world. We hope that our solution helps building social capital in a more efficient way and stops the communication pathology emerging in the youngest generation.
The theme of flying housing units and common small air transport reminds of scenes from science fiction movies. Being optimistic we might consider this idea to be the beginning of a new era where the public commuting in urban areas is lifted up above the ground level relieving streets full of traffics and crowd.
