A woven work of art, the Silk Chair by Alvi Design takes spidery strands of silk and weaves them around a simple wooden frame, giving the chair the appearance of a loom. The minimalist nature in which the chair was formed produces a weightlessness quality. There are moments of high transparency where each individual thread can be seen, as well as areas of high density from the strings interacting with one another as they wrap the supporting structure. From any angle this piece of furniture is dynamic allowing the eye to wonder, following the strands as they flow and twist to determine how they all come together to create a functional product that is not only intriguing but comfortable as well.
