Topic :Tectonic Articulation – Making engineering logics speak.
The project explores the potential for the recursive analysis and optimisation of structural systems. Utilising structural analysis tools, beam and nodal displacements were identified and subsequently used as inputs for a recursive algorithm whereby structure was iteratively added in areas most needed. Through this additive approach a new tectonic language was derived whereby rather than loads being transferred through topologically repetitive space frames or monolithic singularities, complex beam networks endogenously emerged creating gradients of density and angular articulation. Most interestingly the lines between structure, envelope and opening become blurred as multiple systems are accommodated into the aggregation of beams that define the volumes, creating a poetic interplay between line-surface, solid-void, light-dark.
