Main function of Mediatheque is storing, providing and transferring of information. Information means In-form. It specifies form, shape, set. In philosophy, information is opposite to entropy, chaos. Information changes our perception of reality and world around us. It breaks our perceived reality and offers us new opportunities. Mediatheque´s design shows this new reality. It is folded from flat, polygonal fragments with rifts. Information are divided to natural information and socio-cultural information. Natural information arose spontaneously by creative process of universe. Socio-cultural information were created by conscious human activity. At present the socio-cultural information are antinatural in most cases. They destroy all natural structures and throw us to ecological crisis. Solution is in change of information character from antinatural to natural, to respect all natural structures and diversity. My building respects natural structures by using renewable energy resources and it is different from nearest buildings by its organic shape.
Urban concept: Building location is composed by surrounding relations. It creates silent, relax park that is hidden from noisy Šancova street. It is allowed by longitudinal shape of design. In front of building it is created small meeting plaza with bus stop. The mediatheque links both public spaces, park and plaza with Great rift. Šancova street is revitalized by shops opened to street.
Architectural solution: Great rift is place to meet, relax and reading. It connects all floors of the mediatheque and creates climatic and visual comfort. Every floor has different function. First floor invites people to relax, meditation and reading with magazine and coffee. Second floor offers books of all kinds with cozy sitting. On third floor are electronic media with audiovisual room and computers. Fourth floor is dedicated to meetings, lectures and discussions. Second half of fourth floor contains children world, with magical views. Facade is covered by photovoltaic cells, which creates interesting effect.
Construction solution: Construction of design is created from reinforced concrete frames. Modular system has spans 10 500 mm and 6500 mm. Thickness of columns is 300 mm. Slabs are 300 mm and beams are 500 mm thick. Construct system is fixed in reinforced concrete footings. Roof and facade are created from sheet metal and ventilated insulation.
