For five years now, New York City’s Times Square Alliance has made a call to architects and designers for submissions of a Times Square romantic public art display celebrating Valentine’s Day. This year’s is one with a tie and a punch. Titled Heartwalk, the instillation designed by Situ Studio, is at once altruistic and inherently New York-ian.

Created from boardwalk planks salvaged from New York and New Jersey in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the heart-shaped enclosure is illuminated from within its formal volume. Planks lift from a flat plane, creating new space and allowing entrance to a hollowed ground of sorts. If one choses, there’s a metaphor in there… The Heartwalk will be on display until 8 March, 2013.
