Folding Lamp | Thomas Hick

The Folding Lamp is a product that brought together design and origami, transforming a simple household item into a work of art, an idea from the architect Thomas Hick. The beauty of the lamp is that it gives you the freedom of designing it however you want, with unlimited folding options. The Folding Lamp is created from stainless steel and fold-able plates, which allows the user to bend the sheets in any way they like and also playing with the order and angle of each fold. The light shimmering out from the lamp while being folded is what the new décor lacks and becomes a new and unique solution. Six different color combinations offer the owner the sense of a customable choice. The color ranges from matte black, gold, sanded matte white, and red chili. An extra option is available to the user which allows the owner to paint with their own personal theme. The lamp includes efficient LEDs that can be dimmed and switched on and off with a gentle touch to any side of the lamp. At the moment the company is offering a wider choice of colors, materials, shapes, and sizes, whereas in the future the customer will be allowed to upload their own origami designs, which they would turn into products. A fusion of creativity of the designer’s concept and the consumer’s ideas, merging them into something entirely new is the definition of contemporary art and design.
