Floraform | Nervous System

Floraform

Massachusetts based studio  ‘Nervous system’ recently launched its series of jewelry and sculpture design based on the evolution of a flower, named Floraform. They use this organic evolution of a natural entity to digitally craft intricate designs. The basis of their design is to let elements like a flower to grow bio-mechanically and then to simulate this organic design using 3D-printing thus transitioning this natural phenomenon into reality. Just like a natural synthesis of evolution, each piece grows differentially thus making sure that it has its own identity. The computer software developed by Nervous System takes into account the transformation of simple edges into curves, flexural forms as well as ruffles that develop throughout the evolution process. Each design is unique in nature since it develops just from a simple geometry to a typical floral form thus providing an unparalleled design to each piece. Until now Nervous System has only developed this framework for wrists, neck, fingers as well as shelves of furniture, but its potential is such that it might lead to a completely different aspect of designing in the field of jewelry designing.By: Vaibhav Sharma
