Elk Grove Civic Centre | Zaha Hadid Architects

Zaha Hadid Architects have completed proposals for the Civic Centre to be situated at Elk Grove Carlifornia. The proposal is the result of an international competition held in 2006.

At first sight, from the aerial renders of the project one gets the impression of a high-tech pinwheel. Well that . I believe is normal for most of the projects from the parametric studios of Zaha Hadid Architects.

The civic center houses two main programmatic entities, an urban core and a sports one. The 76ha development is composed of the sports facilities to the South comprising game fields, gym, park, and wetlands. The northern part comprises the urban services that include a library, children’s discovery center, hotel, and commercial centers.

According to a spokesman of the design firm, the objective was to explore several possibilities of programmatic distribution among the three main components required by the brief.
